A Sacred Stories Legacy Film is a professionally produced film that preserves the memories, experiences, wisdom, and voice of someone you love. Through a guided, personal, in-depth interview, we discover and capture the stories that reveal a person’s essence, not simply a timeline of events. We weave together photographs, music, and carefully selected moments from the interview to create a film that feels personal, authentic, and lasting. What’s Included in a Sacred Stories Legacy Film?

A Sacred Stories Legacy Film production is much more than a camera and a list of questions. We begin by learning about your loved one, your family, and what you hope to preserve. Whitney Myers prepares a thoughtful interview based on the person’s life and the stories you want to explore.

On filming day, Whitney conducts a relaxed, guided interview while professional cameras, audio, and lighting capture your loved one’s voice and personality. We incorporate photographs you provide, along with music and carefully selected stories from the interview, to create a professionally edited life story film. You receive a private digital film to review before the final version is delivered.  Most projects take approximately six weeks from interview day through delivery, depending on the scope of the project.

Where Does the Filming Take Place?

Most legacy films are filmed in a place that feels comfortable and meaningful to the person being interviewed, often their home or another familiar location. A comfortable setting can make it easier for someone to relax, remember, and let the conversation unfold naturally.

Sacred Stories Films is based in Austin, Texas, but we work with families throughout Central Texas and beyond. We travel for legacy film projects, with associated fees based on the location. In some circumstances, we can conduct interviews virtually.

Sometimes the best setting isn’t the most beautiful one. It’s the place where your loved one feels most like themselves.

More Frequently Asked Questions about our Legacy Film

We’ll meet with you & your loved one to determine your project-specific scope & goals. You will complete a pre-production worksheet to help us make sure we are covering everything you would like included in the video. We carefully select the questions for your loved ones as we prepare for the interview.  These questions can be provided in advance, though we prefer to conduct an unrehearsed interview.  We respect your role in determining what is included in the final project, and we respect the privacy of the person being interviewed and of your family.  We try to be very thoughtful about how the film is put together.
After you receive the password-protected digital video, you will have 5 business days to make changes.  Major changes to the completed video may incur an additional charge.  Once the final invoice is sent & payment is received, you & your family will have full access to download the video for your own storage purposes.  DVDs and USB products are available for purchase upon request.
From pre-production to the end of the project, we allow about 6 weeks. This includes scheduling the interview, carefully selecting music, adding photos provided by the customer, and editing the 3-5 hours of interview footage.
We aim to capture themes of a life and draw out various moments throughout one’s personal history. While there is no way to capture a life on film, the final video touches on key events in a life.
A personal historian is a professional who can handle your book or video from beginning to end.  Often this is a project that has been put off, and we want to help you see it through in a meaningful way. Sacred Stories, LLC specializes in video production, though we are happy to refer you to memoir writers in your area.  Our personal historians are genuinely interested in your story which creates a more authentic product.

These films highlight some experiences, beliefs, observations about life, wishes, and feelings in a coherent and compelling narrative.  A genealogy is a factual account of the descent of a person, family or group.
From beginning to end, we are committed to ensuring that you and your loved one are as comfortable as possible with the process. Our staff has been trained to communicate clearly and has the utmost respect for our clients. We work with you to pick an interview location that is physically right — temperature, lighting, etc. In advance of the interview, we discuss how we plan to use the camera and the types of questions we’ll be asking. The interviewer checks in periodically & serves as a guide for planned & unexpected breaks, and we always assure anyone we are working with that they can pass or skip over any question.

Yes. While a traditional Legacy Film is created with the person themselves, there are meaningful ways to preserve the stories of someone who has died. We can professionally record individual stories or create a film from family interviews, photographs, and other memories. And sometimes the most meaningful place to begin is simply by telling the stories, recording your own stories, listening to one another, and making sure those memories continue to be shared.
